The development of engineering geology as a distinct academic discipline in the UK is intimately linked to a course of lectures given by Herbert Lapworth to the Institution of Civil Engineers in London, in 1907. This course soon found its academic home in the Department of Geology at the then newly formed Imperial College of Science and Technology in South Kensington. This is an account of those who were involved with the subject during its first 100 years at Imperial.
