The ruined town of Campomaggiore Vecchio, Basilicata, Italy

This paper describes the geological and geomorphological setting of the ruined town of Campomaggiore Vecchio, abandoned by its inhabitants following a large displacement landslide a little over a hundred years ago. The reasons for the original landslide, and future prospects for the historical ruins, are discussed in the following text, and the photographs show clearly the effects both of the original slide and the depredations of over a century of abandonment.
